Food Review: Swee Choon Tim Sum

I was having major dim sum cravings. For the longest time really. Then I heard really good reviews about Swee Choon, so FINALLY my family decided to go try it out. And to put the conclusion at the start first, Swee Choon is AMAZEBALLS. Fully satisfied my craving and left me wanting more, although I knew I was full. Really met my expectations and set the standard for any dim sum out there.

And no, I don't have rich tastes. Like maybe I haven't tried Imperial whatwhat or those atas dim sum restaurants. But if I can get good dim sum at such affordable prices, hey save that hole in my pocket.

There were 9 of us, so we ordered a whole lot of dishes. I didn't manage to take a picture of everything though since we were all pretty famished and just polished off every dish that arrived at the table x)

The menu is outrageously extensive. And I was looking at the picture menu and starving of picturefoodporn, if you get what I mean.

Spoilt for choice!

Xiao Long Bao! Tasted pretty normal to me, nothing special although the soup was tasty.
Charsiew Pau, we ordered like 8 of these! It was good, but there are better ones out there (: If your traditional dim sum menu must have charsiew pau though, this is worth it!

Red bean paste bun! Really normal tasting, can do without.
Bleh filling.
Lotus Paste Bun! SUPER NICE

The paste was really good. It wasn't too sweet, but the filling was generous. Maybe the only bad thing about it was that it wasn't hot and the filling was kinda clumpy? I prefer fillings that are evenly spread out in the bun.

The filling be like, "I got swag and stick together"
SUPER DISAPPOINTING siew mai. You can skip this .___.
Gyozas! It was pretty good, since I haven't had this for so long. Love it dipped with generous amounts of vinegar ^.^

Fried banana dough fritters! This is the first time trying it, since I'm so scared of fried foods. It was good! I wish the banana taste was stronger though.

Very normal tasting pan fried red bean pancakes. The red bean filling could hardly be tasted. I'd take mee jiang kueh over this anyday. This was like....what?

Chee Cheong Fun! Pretty normal too.

Chicken claw! I didn't try this, I've never liked it. My grandma said it was quite salty though. Dk if that's good or bad?

Glutinous rice, something like Lor Mai Kai, with chicken meat and mushroom(s). It was so-so. Can go without.

The big chicken pau! Which is supposed to be one of the famous items at their shop. But no, it was really normal. If you follow me on my insta, I posted a large chicken pau from Hock Kee, similar to this. Just 200 times better. Go for that, really. This one was like cold and the ingredients weren't that good.

Portugese egg tarts! I haven't had these in forever! The crust was flaky and pretty good, the egg tart was custardy and nomz with the way it was burnt slightly. Pretty good, but I know other places with nicer ones :>

THIS THIS THIS. MUST TRY. Fried vermicelli kueh! Okay not really kueh. Its just like one whole pile of vermicelli and fried, but it was so good! I had one long one by myself. Noodle bucket here x)

OMG THIS WAS REALLY GOOD! The french beans aren't like normal stir fried ones, they are all shrunken and I was sceptical about this at first, but once I tried it I was addicted! Its super good. We ordered 2 plates of this because 1 wasn't good enough xD With minced pork which I finished every single last bit of it (:

HARGOW. Sihan if you see this, this is for you. HAHA. This was really good, they were super generous with the shrimps!! They were almost bursting out from the pau skin. I had a lot a lot.

SEE DA FILLING

Finally, the main star we were all excited for! Salted egg yolk bun! Not cheap eh! 3 for $3.60, and the buns aren't that big! Only a small muffin cup size. I had 4, we ordered 5 baskets of these xD It was SO GOOD. OMG. CAN'T DESCRIBE. ASDFGHJKL

Let the flowy porn speak for itself.

Hot filling literally pouring out from the opening.

I loved it because it wasn't extremely salty, and yet not too custardy. A perfect balance. My gosh looking at this makes me crave it again.

This was a last minute order item! I saw it on the "New' menu and it sounded and looked really interesting! 3 for $4, which is quite pricey but it is 101% WORTH IT. The egg white is literally puffed to perfection heh and the filling? So generous. omg. I want this. I had 2 oops and we only ordered one plate xD Well everyone else was full so...good for me? :>

The filling. To egg white ration. omg. I can't. I never even imagined red bean and banana could go together, but they made it work. This is so worth the money.

We also ordered stir fried dou miao, which we had 2 plates of because it was also super good, and some noodles which was pretty average, we just had it for the fun of it xD Swee Choon is really so good and really worth the visit.

The problem was at the end of the meal, everyone was saying they were super stuffed and I was sitting there like, "I'm okay eh. I can have more" and this got me so worried. Sigh I had guilt and all after that, but it was okay. I don't regret having this meal. And I'll definitely go again. If they really have a buffet afternoon tea outlet, I'll definitely go there someday idc. Heh. I love dim sum endlessly. I just can't fight that chinese blood part of me.

GO PEOPLE GO. DON'T LET MY BAD PHOTOGRAPHY RUIN THE RAVINGLY AWESOME DIM SUM AT SWEE CHOON.

Next stop, Victor's kitchen liu sha bao. hehe.
